It's not just railings and posts that powder coating can protect however; anything from signs to wheels to gates and even furniture, can benefit greatly from being powder coated.

James responded to my initial enquiry promptly and professionally. He obtained the precise colour I needed (RAL 9002), did a first-class job and returned the newly coated parts within a week. Five stars do not really do justice to the level of my satisfaction!

About us

Here at Riverside Coatings Ltd our mission is simple – provide you with proper powder coating & shot blasting.

We are a powder coating & shot blasting company based in Castleford, West Yorkshire offering a fast, friendly and professional service. Our 6 metre curing oven, along with our custom-built Autowash machine, allows us to be able to powder coat most metal items; from large gates to small parts, in a range of substrates.

What is powder coating?

"Powder coatings may be described as 100% solid paint which comprises a homogeneous blend of polymers, pigments and additives produced in the form of a fine powder. The powder is applied, most commonly, by means of a spray gun that imparts an electrical charge on the powder particles and directs them towards the object to be coated. The object is then subjected to heat which causes the powder to melt, flow out and form a tough, coherent film."

BCF (British Coatings Federation)

Why powder coat?

Powder coating is environmentally friendly, is more durable than liquid paint, and has an attractive appearance and finish. Powder coated products are more resistant to scratches, corrosion, colour fading and weather conditions, and there is also a wide range of colours, glosses and textures to choose from.

As an Interpon Approved Applicator we only use branded powder coats from trusted suppliers. For our range of colours please see our RAL Colour Chart*. Other colours & finishes, with differing levels of longevity, are available and are ordered in at request.

*Note not all RAL colours are stocked - chart is for reference only and is not representative of final finish. Please request samples for specific requirements before placing an order.

Pre-treatment

Here at Riverside Coatings we use a 2 & 4 stage pre-treatment process for galvanised steel and aluminium. Our Autowash machine uses zinc phosphate to treat galvanised steel in a process which is brand-new to the powder coating industry, as well as being recognised by AkzoNobel. This etches the galvanised steel/aluminium so that it is ready to be coated.

Our powder coating process complies with the British Standard for polyester coatings on galvanised steel (BS EN 13438), which specifies the multi-stage chemical pre-treatment of:

  • De-greasing
  • Alkaline/Acid cleaning
  • Rinsing
  • Zinc phosphate
  • Rinsing
  • Deionised rinse or chrome seal

Shot blasting

We use a 200 litre Redline Blast Pot in our large shot blasting cabinet. This allows us to be able to strip back metal that has already been coated, such as old iron gates and railings, as well as key mild steel. In addition to this we also have a small blast cabinet for component parts and smaller items that require a less-abrasive media.
